Friends without benefits

Wednesday Nov 20, 2024

Wednesday Nov 20, 2024

This week’s question:  Can you ever go back to your prior friendship after you are romantically involved with a friend?
Discover:
The challenges you might face when transitioning from romance to friendship like unresolved emotions or jealousy. It important not to push forward with friendship until these lingering issues have been resolved.
Open communication allows both parties to express their feelings and expectations, which can pave the way for a successful transition back to friendship.
How to set boundaries that keep you from slipping back into the romance-zone.
Giving yourself and the other person time apart can help in reassessing feelings and desires before reconnecting as friends. Then, when you’re ready you should start slowly with simple, small, and less intimate interactions.
Why it’s important to accept when things aren’t meant to be. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, returning to a friendship isn’t possible and trying to force it can cause a lot of harm.
This question comes from a three-five generator from Melbourne, who describes herself as a sensitive new age consultant queen, which she has Abbreviated to a snack. You can discover your human design here: www.myhumandesign.com

This week’s question: What do you do to stoke the fire of your friendships and how you maintain the long term friendships in your life? How do you tell if a friendship is going through a change in season or is no longer growing with you? I've had trouble maintaining close friendships, and especially long term friendships, as an adult, and tend to find myself in short or mid term, very intense friendships that grow down in flames. Consistent, sustained, and mutual, caring friendships feel like a distant dream to me, and I'd love to hear some cosmic and corporate advice for how to keep that slow burn of friendship simmering.
Discover:
The seasons of friendship: Friendships naturally ebb and flow. Understanding and accepting these changes is essential to maintain healthy relationships in the long-term.
How Manifestor energy can affect your friendships, and how you can harness it to nurture lasting friendships.
The importance of consistently engaging with your friends. Regular communication, be it a simple message or a planned meetup,  will keep your bond strong.
Practical Strategies, like scheduling regular meet-up,  that can help you build and sustain connections.
How to reflect on your past relationships to identify patterns or pitfalls that can guide your approach to future friendships.
Tips for how to talk openly about the direction of the friendship and any issues that might be arising.  Addressing challenges directly and with honest communication is always best.
This week’s question comes from a five-one manifestor who’s a public servant and physio in Narm (Melbourne). You can discover your human design here: www.myhumandesign.com

A Relationship Reset

Wednesday Nov 06, 2024

Wednesday Nov 06, 2024

This week’s question: As a psychologist working with a team of talented people who are not psychologists, how do I get my colleagues to see me as their colleague and not their psychologist?
Discover:
Why you can (and should) strive for a balance that allows you to be seen as both a colleague and a professional without one overshadowing the other.
How to consciously set boundaries in for interactions in your professional environment.
Authentic language and strategies you can use when setting and communicating these boundaries.
The importance of embracing your human side at work. Sharing personal stories or challenges with your colleagues, will help them see you as a peer.
Reshaping an established relationship doesn’t happen by itself. To change the way your coworkers perceive and interact with you, you need to be intentional and persistent.
This week’s question comes from a psychologist in Melbourne. She didn’t submit her human design chart, but if you want to know yours you can discover it here: www.myhumandesign.com

Why being happy is hard

Wednesday Oct 30, 2024

Wednesday Oct 30, 2024

This week’s question: How do I stop self sabotaging? I'm at a chapter of my life where I'm so happy and aligned. The happiest and most aligned I've been. But I'm bringing in these old behaviors all the time that are taking away from it. It's frustrating. Why can't I just surrender and be happy knowing full well this is where I'm meant to be?
Discover:
The impact that past experiences, and even generational trauma, can have on our current behaviours and mindset.
How to recognise patterns of self sabotage that disrupt your well-being, even during happy time.
Strategies for overcoming these harmful patterns, such as mindfulness and focusing on the present moment.
Happiness isn’t permanent. Life is full of valleys and peaks that we need to find balance in. Focus on living in the present rather than striving for constant joy.
Why it’s important to implement daily rituals of self-love and affirmation to combat self-sabotage and reinforce positive self-perception.

Wednesday Oct 23, 2024

In this week’s episode of the I’ll Ask My Sister podcast, Mads and Ellen are joined by their second guest Kelsey McCormick. Kelsey is the amazing brand specialist behind Coming up Roses and works with creative entrepreneurs to help them get seen, grow their brand, and launch offers with ease.
 This week’s question:
I'm working out how to launch a new business and I haven’t seen anyone else with my particular mix of offerings and so I have imposter syndrome about my plans to start strategic consulting for small business and creatives. I don't have any vocational qualifications but I do have a lot of experience running a small business. I have 15 years worth of contacts and methods in brain so, I guess my actual question is, how can I capitalise on my contacts and passion for helping people strategise and connect???
Discover:
The importance of being clear and specific with your offers. Clearly articulate how you can help your clients, and tailor your messaging to meet their specific needs.
How to leverage your unique experiences when building a brand identity. But make sure you’re not doing it all at once, you want to take time to understand how each part of you can help you serve your clients.
Why you shouldn’t shy away from messy action. Kelsey stresses that striving for perfection can hold us back, but small, deliberate, and sometimes messy steps can bring us the clarity we need.
Showing up authentically on social media can make all the difference. A consistent, real presence will attract clients who align with you even if they aren’t yet ready to explore your services. This is fundamental for building long-term client relationships.
How to cultivate an expansive network. Engage with those who inspire and aid growth. Limit exposure to those who may trigger negative comparisons.
Why you should invest in coaching or find some accountability partners to help you stay focused and gain invaluable insights as you build your business.

This week’s question:  I'm trying to get pregnant and having sex for pleasure has almost disappeared and I don't know how to get it back. Help me.
Discover:
Advice on how to discuss changes in intimacy with your partner to ensure you both understand each other’s needs and expectations.
The importance of staying present during intimacy instead of just focusing on your goal (like orgasming or conceiving). Imagine it’s a road trip, if you rush towards the destination you’ll miss the beautiful scenery and a chance to connect with your partner.
Mads recommends dedicating specific, unrushed times for intimacy. Whether it’s massages, making out, or simply enjoying each other’s company, this time is about experiencing pleasure in its various forms, without any immediate goals
Taking time for yourself is crucial for maintaining a sense of identity in a relationship. Self-care and self-pleasure are both great for your health and happiness.
Resources like "Come As You Are" by Emily Nagoski can provide valuable insights into sex and desire when you’re feeling stuck.
How Human Design can help you navigate decisions or feeling stuck. For those with spleenic authority, decisions often come from instinct rather than logic. Mads suggests that recognising and trusting these instincts can improve decision-making

Friday Oct 11, 2024

This week’s episode of I’ll Ask My Sister features the first guest, Claire Andrews, who joins Mads and Ellen in the second half to answer this week’s listener question. Claire is a midwife turned maternal child health nurse, a mum of two, and the founder of Safe Hands Parenting. If all that wasn’t enough she runs a podcast called The Moment, which Ellen has been a guest on.

This week’s question:
In January, I sadly had a stillborn baby, so had 6 months off work to heal and grieve. I’ve recently gone back to work and am 17 weeks pregnant. Before my stillborn son, Sebastian I loved my job and my colleagues but finding it very stressful being back and knowing I’m only going to be around for another 2.5 months before going on leave again. Feeling like my priorities have shifted but want work to be a positive space for me and want to make an impact over this short time without sacrificing my mental health! Would love some Williams wisdom!

Discover:
How to accept the complexity of navigating life after a significant loss and allow yourself space for healing.
Creating a routine of regular daily practices can help maintain emotional balance and foster a sense of control during difficult times.
Why practicing self-compassion and allowing for emotional fluctuation are essential in managing grief and personal growth.
It’s okay to receive support from your workplace and community rather than always being the giver.
How sharing your personal experiences with colleagues can foster empathy and growth within the workplace.
Most importantly, you should extend grace to oneself; navigating grief takes time, and each day may bring different challenges.
This week’s question comes from Grace who is a three-five sacral generator from Perth. Discover your human design here: www.myhumandesign.com

This week’s question:
I have a question related to working with friends and offering them a professional service. So what is the best way to navigate asserting your value while also respecting your friendship and the compassion you want to have for their financial situation?

Discover:
The uniquely challenging dynamics involved when offering professional services to a friend, how to navigate them, and when you should call it quits.
Advice on understanding and empathising with your friend's situation, without letting it blur professional boundaries.
How to define clear boundaries (whether through contracts or explicit communication) that ensure both parties understand when you are in a professional versus personal context.
The energetics that can influence our pricing. Ellen talks about the concept of ‘internal and external’ pricing, balancing what one needs and what one thinks people will pay.
Why it’s crucial to hold strong in your professional value. This means having confidence in your pricing and not undercutting yourself out of a sense of obligation.

This week’s question:
What is your advice for finding purpose outside of your successful, but stressfully demanding and emotional career to realign work-life balance and invest back into self-discovery as a single woman entering her thirties?

Discover:
Time management is critical when you’re trying to discover your purpose. If work is always the priority you won't have any time for reflecting or discovery.
A good place to start looking for your passion can be looking at what you like to do and what you find fun. If you aren’t sure, think about what you enjoyed as a child, or use Dr Stuart Brown’s Play Personalities Quiz as a starting point.
How self-pleasure can be a powerful tool to get stagnant energy moving again and to build a deeper connection with yourself.
If you’re still feeling stuck, ask for feedback from your friends. As a third party, they can help you understand your strengths and weaknesses.
This week’s question comes from a lovely lady in her thirties from our hometown of Perth and she is a four-six manifesting generator. Discover your human design here: www.myhumandesign.com
